Ajumako-Enyan-Essian District Assembly exceeds 2011 revenue target by 21%

The Ajumako-Enyan-Essian District Assembly has collected GH¢153,805.80 in 2011 as against the estimated GH¢149,361.00.

The 2011 figure exceeded the 2010 revenue by 21 per cent.

Mr Peter Light Koomson, District Chief Executive (DCE) announced this at the first ordinary meeting of the Second Session of the Sixth Assembly at Ajumako.

Mr Koomson said Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, Member of Parliament for the area had secured GH¢680,000.00 for extension of pipe borne water to 12 communities stretching from Asempanyin to Obontser.

He said the Assembly was expected to provide a counterpart funding of GH¢40,000.00 to support the project.

Mr Koomson announced that Later Day Saints, a religious sect had supported the district with water and sanitation facilities in 23 communities.

The DCE announced that Small Town Water System has provided Etsii Sunkwa and the surrounding villages with potable water.

He said the Central Regional Development Commission is sponsoring the construction of 10 boreholes in the district.

Mr Koomson said Rural Enterprises Project in Conjunction with Plan Ghana and Ministry of Trade had trained 74 boys and girls from the district in soap making, batik, tie and dye fabric making, phone repairs, electrical installations and repair of electrical appliances.

He said contract for extending electricity to 13 communities is progressing steadily although 21 communities are yet to be connected.

The DCE said the assembly supported a member of the World Amputee Team, Mr Richard Ekwam who hails from the district and the only African to be selected into the team with GH¢2,500.00 to enable him to make the trip to Turkey.

He said the Assembly has also supported a physically challenged woman who was diagnosed with serious heart problems and needed GH¢28,000.00 for surgery at the National Cardiothoracic Centre with GH¢14,000.00.

Mr Koomson announced that the district had successfully implemented the retargeting and restructuring of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and had extended it from five schools to 19 with 5,065 pupils benefitting.

He said the assembly had passed 2010 Functional Organisation Assessment Tool, which made it possible for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to train the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies through the processes to qualify them for the District Development Fund for the third consecutive time.

The DCE said the Biometric Voters Registration exercise was successful with 48,460 electorates registering for the first three phases.

He said shortage of materials and break-down of equipment which characterised the initial stages were addressed as the registration progressed.
