Mr Peter Jones, British High Commissioner to Ghana has declared that London is ready to host the rest of the World during the 2012 Olympic Games.

The 30th edition of the quadrennial event will take place from 27 July to 12 August, 2012 and Jones said the United Kingdom is relishing at the prospect of hosting the Games that will see over 10,000 athletes from 204 countries vying for honours in 26 sporting disciplines.

Speaking at the launch of the countdown to the Games on Tuesday, the British High Commissioner said the event will also coincide with the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, which makes it historic.

The High Commissioner said the United Kingdom has pumped a colossal £9.7 billion towards the organisation and is looking forward to welcoming the rest of the world to have a feel of the spectacle.
Jones added that the English capital will be the global centre of attraction in the next few months as renowned athletes compete for honours with the Olympic spirit of solidarity and friendship key on the cards.

Professor Francis Dodoo, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) said his outfit is working in collaboration with the British High Commission to ensure Ghana’s participation at the Games.

The Olympics will be followed by the Paralympics Games from 29 August to 9 September, also in London.

The British capital becomes the first city to host the quadrennial games thrice after 1908 and 1948.
