ECG to repair, update equipment for better performance – MD

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is to give additional thrust to its operational and commercial profile and this involves repair and updating of transformers and lines.

Mr William Hutton-Mensah, Acting Managing Director of the ECG, said this on Friday during a ceremony in Ho to present an award to the Volta Region ECG as the overall best performing region in 2011.

He said raising the technical capacities of ECG to improve power quality, combined with good customer relations should enable the company gain the goodwill of the public.

He said ECG should be seen to be responding to customer complaints promptly, repairing faults expeditiously, alongside collecting all the revenues to remain in business.

Mr Hutton-Mensah expressed joy that staff of a district in the Volta Region bought bulbs for dormant clients to enable them use power to stop their meters recording zero.

The Volta Region scored an aggregate 51.4% to win the prize of 10% of annual salary to all ECG workers in the region.

Dr Smart Yeboah, Customer Services Manager, commended the region for the feat, first time ever, since the institution of the award.

He said the terrain in the region, which is rugged, extensive and with many outlandish areas, made the region’s performance particularly commendable.

Dr Yeboah said areas of evaluation included revenue collection, billing and loss reduction.

All ECG district offices in the Volta Region were given plaques of recognition.

Mr Hutton-Mensah, who was the Immediate Past General Manager of Volta ECG, was also given a plaque in recognition of his leadership qualities, which enabled the region to top others.

Mr Delali Oklu, Acting Volta Regional Manager of the ECG said every staff, regardless of status, was part of the effort that won the region the award and promised the region would improve on its operations to keep the lead.

Present at the ceremony were managers from headquarters in Accra and districts in the Volta Region, including Mr Robert Sarpong, ECG Human Resources Manager, who said the company will provide the workers with the tools and other needs to bring out their best.
