Court sentences cobbler to 30 years imprisonment

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a teenage cobbler to 30 years imprisonment for inflicting deep cuts on two persons with a pair of scissors.

Adamu Samudeen, 19, faced additional charges of stealing two cellular phones.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that one of the victims, Adolf Adomako Akuoko, lives with the sister at Asawasi.

The convict also stays in the same neighbourhood.

At about 0200 hours on April 15, Akuoko was returning to the house after staying out deep into the night to watch a film at a cinema hall when he saw the Samudeen coming out of his room.

He attempted arresting him but the convict drew a pair of scissors and stabbing him in the rib and the lower jaw.

Akuoko screamed for help, attracting the other co-tenants but Samudeen managed to flee.

The victim was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

A formal report was made to the police and the convict, who had prior to the offence attacked and inflicted wounds on one Steven Boadi, a private security man, with the same implement, was arrested.

The police found on him two cellular phones belonging to the sister of Akuoko during a search.

The prosecution said the convict admitted stealing the phones and causing harm to the victims in his caution statement.
