The move was also to speed up the implementation of the decentralized concept which would help the participation of the ordinary man in decision-making in local governance.

Mr Abdulai Musah, Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, who inaugurated the councils said that the devolution of power to the people at the grass roots level would not only empower them but more importantly engage them to participate actively in projects that would enable them achieve the developmental agenda of the area.

He said it was unfortunate that for a long while power and decision making were preserve for central government without the direct involvement of the people at the grass roots who should be the beneficiaries of the local administration.

He said for governance to work effectively there was the need for government to reverse power to the people at the grass roots level to enable them identify their needs for government.
