Consultants at Komfe Anokye Hospital announce indefinite strike

Senior doctors and consultants at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), have embarked on an indefinite strike to protest the delay in the payment of their top-up allowances.

The said allowances had been in arrears since January and efforts to get the Health Ministry to settle them had been unsuccessful.

Dr Frank Ankobea, a Consultant Surgeon, said their withdrawal of clinical services took effect from Monday afternoon and would continue until the money is lodged in their accounts.

They would, however, continue to teach at the Medical School of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

This comes barely a month after junior doctors at the facility laid down their tools, complaining of poor working conditions, frequent power cuts, lack of water and faulty equipment.
