The Nasara Club of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) has appealed to Zongo Chiefs and Islamic Clerics to use their influence with the youth to discourage them from thuggery and hooliganism at the biometric voter registration centres.

They should be advised and encouraged to reject any evil political agenda seeking to create confusion and deny qualified voters the right to register and vote in the December general polls.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the club and signed by its Ashanti Regional Coordinator, Alhaji Musah Zingi, in Kumasi.

The statement said it was troubling when some mischievous politicians hide behind the Zongo youth to unleash terror and brutalize people at the registration centres adding “we want to see our youth grow up into responsible leaders.”

It expressed unhappiness with the continued association of the Zongo youth with criminality in the society and said it was time “our Imams and Islamic Scholars during their preaching and sermons to speak against such acts which Islam condemns.”

The statement also called on President John Evans Atta-Mills to act decisively to stop the nasty violent scenes, intimidation and attacks.

“We hope our President would not be happy if his tenure is associated with hooliganism and gangsterism, which may have the potential to tear the nation apart”, the statement added.
