Third phase of registration commences peacefully in Ayawaso Central

The third phase nationwide biometric voters’ registration exercise started peacefully, but with some challenges in the Ayawaso Central constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

A visit to some registration centres in the constituency by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated low turnout and shortage of registration materials.

This has led to hash exchanges between some registration officials and persons who had turned up to register.

At the Pig Farm Primary School centre, turnout was low because many people were not aware that the exercise has commenced there.

Mr Achampong, prospective electorate, at the centre, told GNA that “I was passing and I saw that the registration center is open; nobody has informed us that the registration would come  to this centre from today.”

He called on the Electoral Commission (EC) and  political parties to intensify publicity on the exercise, to enable prospective voters to register.

The EC has, however, persistently, given the assurance that all eligible applicants would be given the opportunity to register.
