Ghana to participate in UN meeting on road safety

Ghana has been invited by the United Nations to participate in a meeting on road safety, scheduled for April 19 in New York.

The invitation is in recognition of the country’s leading role in developing proactive and strategic road safety management programmes. The invitation is for low and middle-income countries.

A statement copied to the GNA in Accra, on Thursday by Mr Kwame Koduah Atuahene, Head of Communications at the National Road Safety Commission, (NRSC) said Mr Noble John Appiah, the Executive Director and Mrs. May Obiri-Yeboah, Director of Planning & Programmes of the Commission, would represent the country.

According to the statement, this was the third invitation by a global agency for the country to share its model road safety management approach.

It said in 2008, the Executive Director of the Commission was the only African invited by the World Health Organization (WHO) to join a team of experts in Geneva in a consultative meeting on Global Road Safety Status.

It said Mr Appiah would deliver a paper during the United Nations General Assembly Meeting on Ghana’s Road Safety Management Programme.
