14 babies delivered during Easter at Elmina Health Center

The Elmina Health Centre recorded a total of 14 deliveries during the Easter celebrations.

On Easter Sunday, eight babies made up of three males and five females were delivered, which is the highest number of births to have been recorded during the Easter in the area.

Mrs Bridget Kwame, the midwife in charge of the Centre said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Monday, in Elmina.

She said on Good Friday two girls and a boy was delivered, whiles two boys and a girl were also delivered on Saturday April 7.

She said all the deliveries, which occurred between midnight and 0700 hours were normal and that the first female to be delivered on Easter Sunday occurred  at 0205hours.

Mrs Kwame said despite the successful deliveries recorded at the center its maternity unit was inadequately resourced to manage the number of maternity cases they receive.

According to her, she was the only midwife at the Centre and had to do the ante natal services as well as attend to labour cases, this she pointed out, was hectic for her and appealed to the regional health directorate to post more personnel to the maternity unit.
