Police to provide 24-hour maximum security at WAEC “strong rooms”

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday assured candidates writing the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) that 24-hour maximum security would be provided at the rooms where examination question papers are kept.

This is to avert any leakage of WAEC question papers to the public so as to maintain the integrity of the examinations.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi on Tuesday, Mr. Patrick Sumailar Wayoe, the Sekondi Branch Controller of West African Examinations Council, who is in charge of the Western Region, said the Council had written to the Ghana Police Service and requested for police personnel to provide security at the fortified rooms of WAEC where question papers are kept.

He said WAEC had made moves to provide maximum security on the question papers in order to avoid the occasional leakage of the papers which often incur huge cost to the Council in printing new questions papers.

Mr. Wayoe said 12,834 candidates had registered to write the WASSCE in the Western Region comprising 6,998 males and 5,836 females.

It has 44 examination centres with over 200 supervisors and invigilators supervising the examinations in the region.

Mr. Wayoe said the examination went on smoothly at all the centres in the region except power outage at Baidoe Bonus Senior High School which delayed the Oral English Paper for 30 minutes.

However, he said the school authorities got generator to provide power to continue the examination.
