Four Africans shortlisted for 2012 Empretec Women in Business Award

Three African women from Nigeria, Zimbabawe, Uganda and Ethiopia are among the ten finalists gunning for the 2012 Empretec Women in Business Award created by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Other finalists are from Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Jordan, Panama and Vietnam.

According to the UN agency, the ten women entrepreneurs have developed innovative business ideas for sustainable development, created jobs and increased income in their communities.

“The first-, second- and third-place winners will be determined by a distinguished panel of judges,” the UN agency said.

The winner of the award will be announced on April 23 in Doha, Qatar during UNCTAD XIII, it added.
