Maximise uses of water to create wealth – Vice President

Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday called on Ghanaians to make maximum use of water bodies to create wealth.

He explained that apart from domestic use, water was useful for the generation of power and agriculture to improve on their lots.

Vice President Mahama said this when he inaugurated a $5 million project at Pong-Tamale in Savelugu-Nanton Municipality.

The project would serve 50, 000 people in Tamale Metropolis, Savelugu Nanton Municipality, Pong Tamale and  Tolon Kumbungu district.

Vice President Mahama said the collaboration between the government of Ghana and the United States of America had brought significant development to Ghanaians and called on the implementers to be diligent in execution.

He commended the Millennium Challenge Account and the Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) for executing the projects on schedule and promised that subsequent collaborations would be made to execute more developmental projects.

The Vice president appealed to officials of Savannah Development Authority (SADA) to collaborate with MIDA to tap their expertise in implementing some of their development projects.

He urged the people to continue sending their children to school to justify the huge investments government was making in the educational sector.

Mr Martin Eson-Benjamin, Chief Executive Officer of MIDA said the provision of water projects would transform the agricultural sector and called on the people to capitalise on the availability of water bodies.
