National Youth Authority calls on eligible youth to register for December polls

The National Youth Authority (NYA) on Friday called on all eligible young voters, especially those who have reached the age of 18 and would be first time voters, to take advantage of the national biometric voter registration exercise to register in their numbers.

“It is in registering that they become eligible to participate in governance in practical terms and have the opportunity to exercise their franchise when the opportunity arises.”

The call was made in a statement issued in Accra by Ms Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, Acting National Coordinator of NYA.

It said in addition to voting, their registration constituted a precious political weapon in which they could exploit to their advantage in negotiating their future within the perimeters of exercising the political and governance mandate of the political players and stakeholders.

However, the statement cautioned and advised the youth not to register twice, as this might lead to being disenfranchised, while young people who had not reached their voting age should avoid any tendency that would enable them to fall foul with the laws and regulations guiding the exercise.
