ECOWAS Mission returns to Senegal for second round of Presidential Elections

The ECOWAS Observation Mission has arrived in Dakar, Senegal for the country’s second round Presidential election. The run-off will held March 25, 2012.

A statement from ECOWAS Commission said Former Togolese Prime Minister, Koffi Sama, who headed a 150-member ECOWAS Mission to the first round Presidential election in Senegal on Sunday, February 26, would lead the mission of 100 observers.

They include ECOWAS Ambassadors accredited to Nigeria and Senegal, Members of the Council of the Wise, West African Parliamentarians, legal and electoral experts, including those trained at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, Ghana, as well as representatives of Electoral Commissions of ECOWAS Member States and non-governmental organisations.

The statement said the observers would be deployed in all the 14 Regions of the country and coordinated from the capital, Dakar.

Mr Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, President of ECOWAS Commission is expected to participate in the mission on Election Day.
