Ex-Black Stars captain named new Hearts coach

Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has appointed former Black Stars captain Charles Kwablan Akunnor as head coach of the Club with immediate effect.

Akunnor, 38, has signed a two-year contract with the Phobians replacing Serbian Nebojsa Vucicevic, who mutually parted ways with the Club last week after a string of poor results in recent times.

A press statement issued and signed by Fred Crenstil on Tuesday copied to GNA Sports said the one-time national skipper has been tasked with re-organising the Club into a formidable and highly competitive side.

Akunnor, who is also an assistant coach for the national U-20 team will lead the team after their Week 20 Premier League match against Medeama SC at the Tarkwa Park.

It is the first official job for Akunnor since leaving Eleven Wise in 2010.

Akunnor was until recently a coach with Right to Dream Academy.
