CAF bans Ghanaian club Nania FC three years

Abedi Pele - Founder of Nania FC

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has banned Ghanaian club Nania FC from international competition for three years after their late withdrawal from the Confederation Cup.

Nania withdrew from the second-tier club competition last month, two days before they were due to host Sequence FC of Guinea in the opening round.

Nania said their major sponsors pulled out, leaving them without enough funds to sustain a continental campaign.

The club has also been fined $1,500.

Founded and coached by former Ghana great Abedi Pele, Nania were the first second-division club to ever win the Ghanaian Cup.
