Ghana to build 200 new Senior High Schools next three years
Two hundred community day senior high schools (SHSs) are to be constructed across the Ghana in the next three years to expand access to secondary education, the Vice President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, has said.
The community schools are to benefit from well-equipped science laboratories to enhance the teaching and learning of science.
The projects are expected to be executed from 2013 to 2015.
“We must create a situation where every qualified JHS graduate gets access to SHS and also ensure that the basic level of schooling for every child in the country is SHS and not JHS,” he said.
The Vice-President made this known when he inaugurated new school buildings for the Christ the King Cathedral Cluster of Schools in Sunyani during the weekend.
The cluster of schools comprise’ the St. James and the St Patrick Basic schools in Sunyani.
The four two-storey classroom blocks for the two schools have facilities such as canteens, boreholes and places of convenience.
The project was initiated by a Franciscan Friar in Sunyani, Rev Father Martino Corrazin, and supported with funds from Spain and Italy.
