Acquire skills to sustain livelihood – LESDEP Director advises unemployed youth

The unemployed youth have been advised to avail themselves to the employable skills training interventions being made by the government to improve on their economic situation.

They should show enthusiasm in learning vocations and trades for sustainable livelihood.

Mr Abass Mubarak Abass, the Asante-Akim South District Coordinator of the Local Enterprise and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP), said cutting corners and the “get-rich-quick attitude” were simply not the way to go.

He told the GNA that more than 100 jobless young people in the district had benefitted from the LESDEP training and that they were exposed to skills in hairdressing, barbering, dressmaking and mobile phone repairs.

He said another 348 have been registered to undergo the training adding that the programme was opened to all and urged out-of school and unemployed graduates to take advantage of it.

He said the trainees are provided with the needed tools and equipment to set up their own businesses and that the acquisition of employable skills by the youth was in their own best interest and that of the national economy.
