Works & Housing Minister visits Ghana Water Company

Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, on Tuesday paid a working visit to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to familiarise himself with the operations of the company.

He said the GWCL is an important agency and it was important for the ministry to take important measures to address the problems of the company.

Mr Mensah said, as a member of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, he had come in contact with a number of reports about the company.

He said staff of the company should desist from making deals with customers to make dubious money from illegal connections.

Mr Mensah also noted that the company performance should be key to the management, adding, “the revenue needed from the company is important for government because 40 per cent of government revenue are used to pay workers salaries.”

“I have heard a lot about the company, but I don’t believe in hear say… Let me see changes in your activities and make sure you monitor the revenue mobilisation of the company well.”

Mr Kweku Botchey, Acting Managing Director of the GWCL said the advised of the minister was well taken and that the authorities of the company will ensure that all efforts are make to protect the image of the company.

He expressed commitment of the GWCL to keep the company running to the satisfaction of every Ghanaian.
