Robbers raid Bawjiase Orphanage farm, steal 12 cattle

Thieves on Friday raided the farm of Countryside Children’s Home (popularly called Bawjiase Orphanage) and stole 12 cattle.

Retired Captain Joe Yeboah, Father of the orphanage, said the farm, which is located six kilometres away from the orphanage had 19 cattle.

He said the caretaker left to visit his family in the North three days ago and left the farm in the care of his eldest son, Ayetu.

Father Yeboah said the orphanage runs on self-reliance programmes, by mainly utilizing its agricultural produce and selling the surplus to raise funds.

Mr. Osei Owusu, administrator at the Orphanage, told Ghana News Agency that the incident might have occurred at about midnight but was discovered at about 0515 hours.

He said he saw a track made by a vehicle that could pass for a truck some metres away from the farm and the place where he suspected they gathered the animals before loading them onto the truck.

Mr. Osei said he believed that the robbers monitored the farm for a while and stole the cattle after Ayetu left the scene.

He said he found the gate to the cattle farm open but without the animals so he raised the alarm for a search to be conducted.

The seven animals were, subsequently, found under some trees, meters away from the farm.

Meanwhile, a report has been made to the Bawjiase Police for investigations.
