African Women’s Development Fund gets $2.73m grant for capacity building

The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) has signed a $2.73 million grant with the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) to strengthen the  institutional and human capacity of the fund.

The grant will also promote the economic empowerment and political participation of women on the African continent.

The signing which was the second phase followed the successful utilisation of the first phase of the grant for which AWDF received $1 million from the ACBF in 2006.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Theo Sowa, Interim Chief Executive Officer, AWDF, noted that more than 70 per cent of poor people on the continent are women who live below the World Bank’s poverty head count ratio of $2 per day.
