Two in court for stealing 400 pieces of lumbers worth GH¢3,000

A driver and his mate, who outwitted a business woman and allegedly stole her 400 pieces of lumbers valued at GH¢3,000, have appeared before a magistrate court at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.

The driver, Kwabena Donkor and his mate, Christian Titome, who were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and stealing, would reappear on February 24.

Donkor, who pleaded guilty was remanded, while Titome pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a GH¢2,000 bail.

Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that on February 5, 2012 the two accused persons were conveying the lumbers from a village near Ofoase in the Akyemansa District to Assin Fosu in the Central Region, when they informed Madam Joyce Dzotiashie, owner of the lumbers, that there was a shortage of fuel in the vehicle.

He said when she provided the fuel, they later told her that the vehicle had develop a fault so she should look for another vehicle to off-load the lumbers, and when Madam Dzotiashie returned from Akim Oda with another vehicle, she realised that the lumbers, vehicle, the driver and his mate had disappeared.

Inspector Appiah said upon Madam Dzotiashie personal investigation, it was revealed that Donkor and Titome drove the vehicle with its load to Assin Fosu to sell and therefore, made a report to the Police who proceeded to the town and arrested Titome, but Donkor absconded until later when he was flushed out from his hide-out.
