Six perish in accident on Kumasi-Bibiani road

Six people including a two-year old boy were killed when a Hyundai mini-bus on which they were travelling was involved in an accident at the Bayerebon Junction on the Kumasi-Bibiani road.

Eight other passengers, who suffered broken bones and cuts, are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The bus first hit a taxi-cab before crashing into an articulated truck parked on the shoulder of the road.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had to cut through the wreckage to remove the dead and the injured.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Fosu, the Nyinahin District Police Commander, who confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said it occurred at about 1730 hours on Tuesday.

The bus was travelling from Kumasi to Bibiani.

He said on reaching the Bayerebon Junction, the mini-bus was crossed by a taxi-cab driver, who had failed to observe on-coming vehicles, hitting the taxi in the process and running into the parked truck.

DSP Fosu said the driver of the bus, Atta Agyeman, was among those who died and that their bodies had been deposited at the KATH mortuary.
