Police arrest man dealing in fake Ghanaian currency

The Eastern Regional Police Command, on Thursday arrested a 27-year- old carpenter, Samuel Baffour for dealing in fake Ghanaian currency in Koforidua.

According to the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, Baafour and two others, who were on the run, boarded a taxi from the Koforidua central area to Adweso around 0400 hours on Thursday.

He said on reaching a section of the road, Baafour gave the driver five Ghana cedis but the driver suspected it to be fake and therefore drew the attention of a Police patrol team in the area.

He said upon sensing danger all the three took to their heels and were pursued by the Police patrol team until the suspect was arrested.

DCOP Gyamera-Yeboah said a search in the bag of the suspect revealed an amount of faked GH¢120, all in five-cedi denomination.

He said Baafour would be put before court whiles a search had been mounted for the other two.

The Regional Commander therefore urged the public to be vigilant and to carefully scrutinize all monies that they receive.
