Upper West CLOGSAG scolds Fair Wages and Salaries Commission

The Upper West Regional branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) says the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has persistently ignored its call for fair play and engagement.

The branch stated that the FWSC had up to date failed to rectify the distortions created in the migration of some of their members onto the SSSS since September, 2011.

This situation it said had left most of CLOGSAG members hanging on wrong salary levels or placements.

The Regional branch of the Association expressed these sentiments in a press conference in Wa on Friday to back the demands of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the resolution of the issue.

It was even more disheartening to note that up to date the FWSC had flatly refused to migrate staffs of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, Internal Auditor Division, Non-Formal Education Division and the Lands Commission who were all CLOGSAG members on to the spine even though they were assured that all Public Sector Workers would be migrated before the end of December, 2011, Mr. Michael Bayel, the Regional Chairman, said

According to him, the National Executive of CLOGSAG had made strenuous efforts in vain in their quest to meet with the FWSC to address the issue and negotiate the Top-Up allowances which had been introduced to cushion Public Sector workers due to the distortions in the implementation of the SSSS.

Mr. Bayel said the Association viewed the refusal of FWSC to migrate some of their members as a deliberate attempt to break CLOGSAG front, describing it as an unfortunate event.

He said CLOGSAG members were loyal servants and were ever prepared to work to ensure the successful implementation of programmes and policies of the Government of the day and did not deserve to be treated with contempt.

The Regional Chairman noted that members have now reached a stage where they have no other option than to wear red arm bands and begin a sit-down strike with immediate effect until their concerns are addressed.
