Global Fund, MP build GH¢40,000 clinic to handle tuberculosis cases in Mfantseman area

A clinic to handle tuberculosis cases has been inaugurated within the Mfantseman Municipal Hospital at Saltpond.

Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Deputy Minister for the Central Region and Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West, funded the construction of the facility at a cost of GH¢40, 000.

He took it over from the Global Fund which started it up to the foundation level.

Reported cases of TB are high in the Municipality. In 2010, 143 new cases were recorded out of which 67 were cured, 58 completed treatment, 20 died and three clients defaulted.

Inaugurating the clinic, Mr Quansah announced plans by the government to convert Anomabo Health Centre into an Accident Centre to take care of victims of accidents on the Cape Coast / Mankessim highway.

He commended doctors and nurses working in the municipality and said he would provide the necessary support to make their work easy.

Mr Quansah said efforts were being made to make the proposed Nursing Training School for Saltpond to take off in September and that temporary accommodation had been acquired and accreditation was being worked on.
