Food and Drugs Board destroys contaminated fish in Koforidua
The Eastern Regional office of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Thursday destroyed several cartons of fish which were exposed to bad hygienic conditions.
One Madam Felicia of Srodae, a suburb of Koforidua, was said to have kept the fish on the bare floor for four days.
Mr George Pentsil, the Officer in charge of the Eastern Regional office of the FDB, told the Ghana News Agency that information about the unwholesome fish was relayed to him from Accra.
He said when FDB personnel got to the scene, they saw that apart from the fish being put on the bare floor, the area was close to a bush where people defecate and also very close to a fitting shop.
Mr Pentsil explained that the fish was too contaminated and therefore no amount of fire could make it good for human consumption, hence the destruction.
He therefore cautioned the public to be cautious of what they eat and where they buy food.
Mr Pentsil also appealed to the public to provide his outfit with information on unwholesome food and drugs in the Region.
