Agogo youth lift ban on funerals after court ruling on fulani herdsmen

The funeral ban imposed by the youth of Agogo to force the traditional council to throw Fulani herdsmen out of the area has now been lifted.

It lasted for about five months.

A statement by the Agogomanmma Kuo, Agogo Youth Association and the Concerned Citizens of Agogo, said the decision followed the ruling by a Kumasi High Court that the herdsmen and their cattle should be flushed out by the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

The statement said the judgment had effectively rendered all agreements between the traditional council and the herdsmen null and void and therefore responsibility for dealing with the alien herdsmen had shifted.

“The matter is now beyond the remit of the chiefs and there cannot be any justification for the ban to continue to remain in place,” it said and appealed to REGSEC to act timely and decisively to remove the herdsmen as directed by the court to give the people some peace.
