The facility comprises a volley and basket ball courts at a cost of $100,000 funded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Mr Woyongo, at the commissioning of the project said the courts, which were started in June last year were meant to promote sports activities and development in the Region.

The Regional Minister said sporting activities promotes unity and friendship and therefore called on sportsmen and women in the Region to use sports to promote peace, inter-ethnic collaboration and harmony even as the elections approach.

Mr Woyongo assured the Sports Ministry that the facilities would be maintained and put to good use and promised that efforts were being made to upgrade the regional sports stadium to befit international status.

Mr Ewuntomah Iddrisu, Regional Sports Development Officer commended the Government for the provision of the facility, adding that school children and the youth would be groomed to take up basketball and handball training to represent the Region in nation-wide competitions.

He regretted that even though a sod cutting ceremony was undertaken by the President for the construction of a sports complex in the Region, work was yet to commence and therefore appealed to government to expedite action to upgrade and begin works on sports stadium.
