Electrician arraigned before court for defilement
Bernard Nana Yaw Koranteng, an electrician, who allegedly had sex with a 14 year old girl was on Wednesday put before an Accra Circuit Court.
He has been charged with defilement of a child under 16 years contrary to section 101 of the criminal code (Act 29, 1960).
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded into lawful custody to re-appear on February 16.
The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector A.A. Ahor, presenting the facts of the case, said the complainant is a trader who lives at Ashongman Estates with her family including the 14 year old victim, who is her niece.
He said the accused; Yaw Koranteng, is an electrician and a regular visitor to the complainant’s house and usually did menial jobs for them.
According to him, since November 2011, the accused took advantage of his association with the family and had sex with the victim.
Chief inspector Ahor said in January 2012, the victim suspected she was pregnant and informed the accused.
The prosecutor said the accused had the intention of terminating the pregnancy and invited the victim to his house at Ashalajah near Amansaman on January 18, 2012 and had sex with her once more.
He said the victim stayed with the accused until January 20, this year, when the complainant traced the victim to the accused home and brought the victim back to the house.
Chief Inspector Ahor said the complainant reported the case to the Police.
He said accused was later arrested and in his caution statement admitted the offence.
