NCCE launches revitalise civic website

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Friday launched a revitalised civic website – www.nccegh.org to provide a platform for proactive dissemination of civic education information to the public.

The site designed with the new logo of the Commission at the upper-left corner has four broad information pages about the NCCE Commissioners, Programmes, Management, and Home.

Other details include contact information as well as information portfolio on the Commission’s Work; Latest General News and press releases; copy of the 1992 Constitution which can be download and annual Reports from 2008 to 2010.

The NCCE’s Mandate, Vision, Values based on integrity are boldly spelt-out.

Mr Claude Maerten, Head of European Union Delegation to Ghana unveiled the new logo and launched the website at a ceremony in Accra.

The platform was also used to introduce the new NCCE Commission Chaired by Mrs Charlotte Osei; Mrs Augustina Akosua Akumanyi, Deputy Chairperson in Charge of Finance and Administration; and Mr Baron Amoafo, Deputy Chairman in Charge of Programmes.

Other members of the Commission are: Mr George Charles Quaynor-Mettle; Ms Philomina Abena Offe; Mr Augustine Dzineku; and Mrs Hajara Mohammed Rufai.

Mrs Akumanyi noted that the Commission have adopted: “Stand Up for Ghana,” as a general theme for the year which would serve as wake-up call to Ghanaians to consider the national interest first before political and other interests.

She charged Ghanaians to ensure that collectively “we make the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections peaceful for Ghana to maintain its enviable position as the beacon of hope in the troubled West African Sub-region”.

Mrs Akumanyi said the main task of the Commission in an Election is to foster civic advocacy to nurture the culture of rights and responsibility, for a successful and peaceful elections.

She said the Commission would intensify public education campaign on the biometric voter’s register and the democratic process during the first quarter of the year.

Other activities for the year includes second quarter – civic and public education engagements to promote peaceful and credible elections; third quarter programmes would focus on promotion of tolerance for peaceful elections whilst the last quarter would be devoted to ensure higher voter turnout and effective citizen’s participation in the electoral process.
