Mr Kofi Okyere Agyekum, New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Fanteakwa, has said the party would retain the Fanteakwa seat in 2012 Election because of its good performance.

He, however, asked party supporters to avoid complacency and work harder for victory.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Osino on Friday, Mr Agyekum recalled that the Fanteakwa seat was won by Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)   between 1996 and 2000.

He said the NPP captured the seat from the NDC in 2004 and retained it in 2008 and said the NPP would win the seat again.

Mr Agyekum said statics available indicated that NPP performance in elections after elections kept improving while that of the NDC was dwindling.

He said in 2004 the NPP recorded 20,723 votes and NDC 14, 996 votes and in 2008 the NPP increased its votes to 21, 726 whiles NDC recorded 14, 912.

Mr Agyekum said he had contributed to the growth of NPP though he contested the constituency parliamentary primaries in 2004 and 2008 and lost.

Mr Agyekum said he sponsored the education of brilliant but needy school children and assisted some communities with electrification projects, constructed market sheds for Nsuta-Dahomey, Ehiamankyene, Ahomam, Osino and Begoro.
