PNC confirms Haruna Bayirga as parliamentary candidate for Sissala West

Mr. Haruna Bayirga, the only People’s National Convention (PNC) Member of Parliament in the Upper West Region was on Sunday declared unopposed at the party’s Sissala West Constituency Delegates Congress to contest the 2012 parliamentary election for the third time.

Similarly, a 19-member executive was also declared unopposed at the Congress held at Gwollu to handle the affairs of the party with Alhaji Abu Kadiri as Chairman and Abdulai Mohammed as Secretary.

Addressing the delegates, Mr. Bayirga said Sissala West Constituency was a focal point for the growth of the PNC and called for unity among the rank and file of its supporters to retain the seat in the 2012 parliamentary election.

He said the PNC ideology was Ghana and as such it had come to help heal the wounds of Ghanaians and also create a favourable atmosphere for peace to prevail in country.

“PNC has always played a major role as a unifier in Ghana’s political arena, supporting both the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress in parliament to choose a speaker and also perform parliamentary duties”, Mr. Bayirga said.

He  therefore called for the strengthening of smaller political parties in the country to help nurture participatory democracy and promote good governance at the grassroots.

He advised members of the party to talk on issues and avoid insults and unsubstantiated allegations whenever they found themselves either on radio or any other channel of communication.

Mr. Bayirga said he had used resources allocated to him by government to improve the human resource base of the district; investing so much in education, health, and vocational training to enhance the livelihoods of the people.

Alhaji Abu Kadiri in a welcoming address, said the PNC was a legacy bequeathed to Ghanaians, and urged all to look at the track record of Dr. Limann’s government and vote for the PNC in the 2012 elections.

He appealed to supporters of the party to work to avert troubles in the constituency and urged leaders of other political parties in the constituency not to do anything that would create unrest.

Mr. Awudu Saaka, Regional Secretary of the PNC told the constituency executives to see their positions as a challenge and work harder to retain the seat for the party despite some difficulties.

Mr. Mawuli Adufutse, Sissala West District Electoral Officer who conducted the elections reminded people in the area to participate in the forthcoming biometric registration exercise to qualify them to vote in the 2012 election.

Some solidarity messages came from the NPP, CPP,  and NDC Executives who were invited to grace the congress.
