ICT experts want vital linkages between banking and telecom industries

Service providers in the mobile industry at the weekend called for the development of vital operational linkages among professionals in the banking, information, communication and telecommunication sector for greater maximisation of technology.

The ICT Service providers expressed concern about the high industrial antagonism, characterised by unprofessional acts of undermining and unjustifiable bureaucratic tendencies employed mostly by operators in the banking sector to frustrate business development.

They were contributing to the January “Mobile Monday Ghana,” dialogue series in Accra organised by the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.

The participants also discussed the topic,“Convergence of Mobile Banking and Mobile Money Services – the potential Unstructured Supplementary Services Data”.

The Mobile Monday dialogue series exposed participants to “Hei-Julor,” a new security application.

The participants stated that global mobile telecommunication infrastructural development had rapidly transformed the monetary sector posing serious challenges to the banking sector.

The Ghanaian banking sector therefore, needs to join forces with mobile industrial stakeholders to exploit and utilise opportunities created for efficient banking system, the participants observed..

The Mobile Monday is an open networking organisation for mobile industry professionals fostering cooperation and cross-border business development through virtual and live networking events to share ideas, best practices and trends from global markets.

Since 2000, Mobile Monday chapters have been meeting at physical monthly events around the world to explore the many new and exciting opportunities of the industry.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Ms Dorothy K. Gordon, Director-General of Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT said the Centre worked with other institutions located in six continents, namely Africa, Asia, Australia, Latin America, Europe and the United States.

She said the centre offered corporate training programmes geared towards improving productivity and profits towards overall competitiveness in three major areas of security including cyber-forensics; business simulation modeling and a set of specially targeted training for the sub-region’s nascent Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Ms Gordon said KACE offered consultancy services designed to assist individuals, institutions and businesses to keep pace with the rapid developments in information and communication technologies.

She said the centre’s ICT for Development projects also involved working with communities to test innovative ICT solutions in different rural and urban settings.
