Porter fined GH¢300 for stealing cooking oil

Papa Asefuah, a Porter, has been fined GH¢300 by a Takoradi Circuit Court for stealing 25 litres of cooking oil valued at GH¢69.

The accused who pleaded not guilty, would serve two years imprisonment in hard labour if he fails to pay the fine.

Police Inspector Fuseini Yakubu said on January 9, Ebenezer Abetey, a salesman, spotted the accused stealing the cooking oil from the shop belonging to Theresa Cudjoe at Takoradi.

He said Abetey raised an alarm and the accused took to his heels but he was later apprehended with the cooking oil and handed over to the Takoradi Market Circle Police Station.

Inspector Yakubu said in his statement, the accused claimed a woman whom he could not recollect asked him to carry the cooking oil to Kwesimintsim taxi station for her.
