Ghana Premier League: Kotoko face Medeama as first round reaches climax

The curtain of the first halve of the 2011/2012 Glo Premier League will fold up this weekend with week 15-matches.

For clubs at the top bracket, they will be hoping to maintain their positions whilst those at the bottom will seek to lift themselves up as the first round reaches its climax.

Leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s ambitions of ending the first halve of the season at the top largely depends on the outcome of their encounter against Medeama FC scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.

In Medeama, Kotoko will face a tougher opposition but the inconsistency of the former in the 14-week old League makes them far from being the side that can perform the kill.

The Porcupine Warriors also have had their fair share of unpredictability at their fortress managing ordinary outputs in recent matches.

Fresh from their mid-week victory over Liberty Professional at the Accra Sports Stadium, much will be expected of coach Maxwell Konadu and his charges to sign off in grand style.

The return of star player Ahmed Toure, from his native Cote d’Ivoire, defensive pillar Awal Mohammed and midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei after sitting-out of the last game due to suspension will give Konadu some options in defence, midfield and attack.

Medeama’s best player this season has been former Asante Kotoko’s ‘misfit’, Louis Agyemang; who is expected to prove to his former employers that the surge in his performance is no fluke.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak who are two points shy of their arch-rivals will face Heart of Lions. The Kpando lads have been off-colour this season but are highly tipped to give their guests a good run of their monies worth.

Elsewhere at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi, Wassaman United will host Bechem United in a battle of debutants with both clubs swimming in the relegation waters.

Wassaman occupy the depth of the league log and will find in the surging Bechem United yet another tall mountain to climb.

At home or away, Wassaman have failed to bark after collecting a paltry eight points from a maximum 42.

Wa All Stars will welcome Liberty Professionals to the Wa Park, New Edubiase face Obuasi Ashantigold at Bekwai whilst Ebusua Dwarfs play host to Tema Youth in a clash at Cape Coast.

Berekum Chelsea will face Aduana Stars in a regional derby at the Golden City Park in Berekum.

On Saturday, Tudu Mighty Jets will lock horns with Berekum Arsenal at the Accra Sports Stadium.
