12 NGOs register with Western Regional Parliamentary Resource Centre

Twelve Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have registered with the Western Regional Parliamentary Resource Centre to enable them promote good governance.

Mr Pius Acolatse, Public Affairs Officer of the centre, said this in an interview with the GNA at Sekondi on Thursday.

The registered organizations include Friends of the Nation (FoN), Advocates and Trainers for Women’s Welfare, Advancement and Rights (ATWAAR), Rural AID Alliance Foundation, Master Care Ministries, Africa Women International and the Amazing Saving Grace Foundation.

The rest are, Safety Consult, Berea Social Foundation, Environmentalist Foundation, Daasgift Foundation, Handmade Economic Network and Fracel Helping Hand Foundation.

Mr Acolatse said the partnership was in line with the recommendation that Parliament forge links with local civil society organizations.

He said the registered organizations would help articulate public opinion on national issues and assist Parliament in its work.

Mr Acolatse said all the organizations have registered with the Register-Generals Department and the Department of Social Welfare.

He said the centre was also implementing a programme to promote respect for Parliamentary democracy among the youth.

Mr Acolatse said under the programme, youth groups recognized by the National Youth Authority would be educated on the UNESCO declaration on tolerance.

He said the programme was being undertaken at educational institutions including the Shama, Adiembra, Takoradi, Ahantaman, Archbishop Porter Girls, Saint Anne’s Vocational Institute, Methodist Day, Saint Mary Boys and Mpohor Senior High Schools as well as the Sekondi College.
