Two alleged petrol smugglers in Court

A Ho Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded two people in police custody for allegedly attempting to smuggle petrol to Togo.

The two are Tanda Kodzo, a fuel pump attendant at the Star Oil Filling Station at Aflao and Kofi Tsikata, an ‘Okada’ operator.

They pleaded not guilty and would return to court on January 27.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Henry Dery told the Court presided over by Mr Richard Kogyapwah that, on January 4  a police patrol team passed by the Star Oil Filling Station at Aflao and spotted a wooden board with the inscription, “no fuel.”

He said on the return of the patrol team, the police officers saw some people on motorbikes with Togolese registration numbers holding jerry cans and gallons filled with petrol.

Sergeant Dery said the riders sped off leaving the jerry cans and gallons of fuel and the police arrested Kodzo and Tsikata, adding that  investigations were ongoing to arrest the rest believed to have come from Togo.
