EPUC to train students ready for job market – Council Chair

Professor William Komla Amoaku, Governing Council new Chairman of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC), has stressed the need for programmes at the university to develop graduates beneficial to the global market demand.

“We must not only train but also educate and prepare our students not just for any job but to be versatile,” Professor Amoaku said at the Governing Council’s inauguration in Ho on Monday.

Professor Amoaku said the Council would encourage the development of new programmes taking into account existing courses and programs that were viable to  support faculty development and seek strategic exchange and outreach initiatives with institutions in and outside Ghana.

“We shall look at and emphasize ICT as a primary mover of programme development”, he said.

Professor Amoaku said for a private tertiary institution such as the EPUC with limited infrastructure and facilities to have its student population jump from 54 to over 1,000 students in four years, showed the citizenry’s need “to prepare itself for tomorrow’s competitive world.”

He said the growing cost of running tertiary institutions globally had necessitated the merging or complete scrapping of some academic programmes.

“However, it is a necessity for a developing nation such as ours to educate its people to be able to compete in all spheres of the global arena.”

Professor Amoaku, therefore, congratulated the outgoing Governing Council and administration for achieving so much within such a short period with limited resources.

Very Reverend Dr Livingstone Buama, Honorary Chancellor of EPUC urged stakeholders in the University to reflect strong convictions and passion in the execution of their assignments towards making the University the best in the country.

Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church exhorted the new Council members to work as a team and collaborate with the E.P. Church Council and Standing Committee to achieve the mission and vision of the EPUC.
