Educationist worried about failure of BECE candidates to attend extra classes

Mr James Appiah-Kusi, Nkoranza North District Director of Education, has appealed to parents to ensure that their children  attend extra-classes, organised for them in preparation for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He expressed worry that some BECE candidates in the area were engaging in trading, farming or charcoal burning instead of attending the classes  and asked parents to stop their children from engaging in those activities.

Mr Appiah-Kubi was addressing more than 60 head teachers and circuit supervisors at the opening of a three-day orientation workshop.

The event was aimed at preparing the head teachers to enable them to organize school-based in-service courses to keep teachers abreast with subjects in the school curriculum.

Mr Appiah-Kusi asked members of School Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Associations to visit schools to ensure that effective teaching and learning was taking place.

He said the in-service training would also offer the teachers the opportunity to share ideas to improve their skills, knowledge and teaching methodologies.

Mr Appiah-Kusi commended donor agencies for supporting Government to upgrade the skills and knowledge of teachers.
