Minister advises Muslims not to force daughters into early marriages

Dr Kwasi Akyem-Apea Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, has appealed to Muslims not to encourage early marriage of their daughters but instead encourage them to go to school.

Dr Apea- Kubi made the appeal at the launch of Arabic books to be used by Islamic schools in the Eastern Region.

He said education was the key to sustainable development in every society since it provided the necessary basic human resource.

He said it was therefore important for every family or community to give due attention to the education of their children who were the future leaders of the country.

The Regional Minister said the government was committed to ensuring quality education at all levels and lauded the printing of the books aimed at helping children in Islamic schools in the region to be abreast with Islamic studies.

He said it would help in the reduction of illiteracy in communities that had been considered as a major contributory factor to underdevelopment.

The Eastern Regional Manager of Islamic Education Unit, Mr Abubakar Unmoro Yurusah, said the government through the Ministry of Education charged the Curriculum, Research and Development Division to prepare syllabus for teaching of Islamic and Religious Studies.

The book, which is to be used by the primary division, was compiled by the Eastern Regional Council for Islamic Education Unit.
