Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation gets new CEO after Dr Spio-Garbrah’s exit

Professor Tim Unwin is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), the body’s Council has confirmed after Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah of Ghana ended his term of office.

Dr Spio-Garbrah’s CTO CEO post came to an end in September 2011.

“Tim Unwin takes over the reins of the intergovernmental body from Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, who held the position for eight years,” the CTO said in a statement.

“I am pleased to be handing over the reins of the CTO at such a high point in the Organisation’s life,” Dr Spio-Garbrah said in the statement. He received a standing ovation from the CTO Council during the handover.

Tim Unwin is currently a Professor of Geography and UNESCO’s Chair in ICT4D at the Royal Holloway of University of London.
