Police vows to step up battle against drugs

An officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has vowed that  security personnel would intensify the  battle against the drug menace in the country.

Police Chief Superintendent Moses Atibillah  said the police would ensure more thorough investigations to secure conviction of those arrested for dealing in illicit drugs.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, he said instances where offenders were freed by the court because of loopholes in police investigations and weak prosecution could not be allowed to continue.

Chief Supt Atibillah reminded Ghanaians that narcotic drugs affected the health and security of both sellers and users, and expressed worry at the high rate of the involvement of the youth in the menace.

He said: “We should not allow these young people, the nation’s future to ruin their lives”,  and blamed armed robbery and other crimes on drug abuse.

Chief Supt. Atibillah appealed to the public to support the police to track down drug dealers .
