Police impound taxi in fuel stealing operation

The Half Assini Police have impounded a taxi cab with registration number WR 166 R allegedly being used in stealing fuel at the Nawuley Limestone Site.

Mr Joseph Kolora, a security man at the Site who was arrested in connection with the stealing, has been granted bail by the Half Assini district magistrate’s court.

A spokesman for the police told the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini that following reports by the AJ Fanj Construction Limited, Operators of the Nawuley Limestone Mining Site to the Police of rampant fuel stealing, they organised an operation on December 8, 2011.

The spokesman said about 2200 hours on that day the police laid ambush around the Company’s site at Nawuley and within few minutes, four people arrived in the taxi cab and started siphoning the diesel from the tanks at the yard into containers in the taxi.

The spokesman said when the police attempted to arrest them they took to their heels and left behind the taxi and the two drums of diesel.

He said Kolora, who was on duty, was arrested.
