Bawku paramount chief calls on his people to halt desertification

The Paramount Chief of Bawku , Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has appealed to people in the area to preserve the environmental to halt the movement of the desert to the area.

He also called on non-government organizations, Government and other stakeholders implementing projects on climate change to support the people to undertake tree planting and other sound environmental practices to stop the desertification.

Naba Azoka made the call at a durbar of chiefs and people of Bawku Traditional Area to mark the Samanpiid festival, at Bawku.

Mr Musah Abdulai, Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku, asked the people to bury their political differences and contribute to national development.

He said the NDC Government was committed to enhancing the welfare of the people and would pursue sound economic policies in education, agriculture, health, water and good sanitation to achieve the goal.

Mr Abdulai expressed regret at the abysmal performance of candidates in the last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination at BECE in the area.

He appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children, especially the girl-child.
