Apprentice jailed 20 years for possessing cannabis

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 22-year-old apprentice to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour for possessing 32.159 grammes of cannabis.

Abraham Sarfo, alias “Vasco” pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Superintendent Moses Atibillah told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that his arrest on March 18, last year, followed a tip off.

The police received information that the convict was dealing in narcotic drugs at his Atonsu residence in Kumasi and quickly moved in.

He said Sarfo on seeing them took to his heels with a black polythene bag he was holding and was arrested after a hot chase.

The prosecution said when the bag was searched it was found to contain dried leaves which proved to be cannabis.
