Robbers kill woman, loot LPG sales

Five suspects have been picked up by the Akatsi Police in connection with last Thursday’s robbery at the Louis Gas Station near Akatsi in the Volta Region.

The robbers, one wielding a single barrel locally manufactured gun, shot and killed Ablavi Shantai, 23, a female attendant in the process.

A statement dated 31 December 2011 and signed by Mr Alex Bedie, Volta Regional Police Commander, said the robbers, three in number, attacked the Gas Depot, located near the District Assembly at around 2030 hours.

It said the robbers thrust into the room where a female and a male attendant were counting the day’s sales.

The statement said Ablavi Shantai, the female attendant, on seeing the robbers shouted to alert Senyo the other attendant that the intruders were armed robbers and the robber holding the gun shot her in the armpit, killing her instantly.

It said the robbers looted the daily sales amounting to about GH¢1,000.00 and escaped.

The statement said the Akatsi Police arrived at the scene when the robbers had escaped but tracked a former employee and suspect, Emmanuel Kposu to his house at Akatsi but did not find him.

It said Kposu was traced and found at Kotoku, a village near Akatsi, under a tree with three others and the four were picked up for investigations.

The statement said Kposu, 32, unemployed, who is on Police wanted list for unlawful entry and stealing was a prime suspect.

The others are Dodzi Home, 21, Yao Nkegbe, 21 and Atitso Nkegbe, 22, all unemployed.

The statement said another suspect Gasu Agbeko, 22, also unemployed was picked up on Saturday, December 31, 2011.

All suspects would be put before court soon, while investigations go on.
