Prominent citizens asked to help develop new districts

Citizens with expertise in development have been asked to assist newly created districts in the country with their rich experience to enable them to develop rapidly.

Alhaji Mohammed Mununi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, who made the call, asked them to regularly visit their communities, identify problems, and offer professional and technical expertise to the new districts.

He made the call at a durbar organized by the chiefs and people of the Kumbungu Traditional Area, to express their gratitude to President John Evans Atta Mills and the NDC Government for the creation of the Kumbungu District.

The durbar was also to commend President Mills for appointing the Kumbungu-Na Yiri Iddrissu Abu II, paramount Chief of Kumbungu,  as a member of the Constitution Review Commission.

The Kumbungu District that was carved out of the Tolon/Kumbungu District, has its capital at Kumbungu.

Alhaji Mumuni said the creation of new district was part of Governments’ efforts to bring development to the door steps of the people to fufil the “Better Ghana” agenda.

He said it was also part of efforts to ensure the effective participation of the people in local governance and to promote the socio-economic development of the area.

Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, said the Government would make available money for infrastructural development of the new district.

He appealed to the people release land for the construction of offices and residential accommodation for workers.

Alhaji Yakubu Kapkpagu, Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, said Government would develop the area.

He called on the people to unite for the development of the area, and commended the Kumbungu-Na and other prominent citizens for supporting in the creation of the new district.

Kumbungu-Na Abu called on the people to bury their political differences and unite for the development of the new district.

He also asked them to pay their taxes regularly and promptly to enable the assembly to generate more funds for development.
