Appeal Court dismisses case against Buipewura

An Appeal Court in Kumasi has dismissed an appeal brought against the Buipewura, Abdulai Jinapor II, by his overlord, the Yagbonwura.

The Yagbonwura and the Gonja Traditional Coucil had sought to nullify the re-instatement of the Buipewura by a Tamale High Court.

The three-member panel, however, upheld the high court’s decision that the defendant was not given fair hearing before his de-skinment.

It awarded GH¢2,000.00 cost against the plaintiffs.

Justice Mariama Owusu presided with Justice Francis Kwobia and Justice Irene Danquah, as the other members.

The Yagbonwura and the Gonja Traditional Council had de-skinned the Buipewura for alleged disrespect.

The matter came before the National House of Chiefs and the Buipewura was cleared of any wrongdoing.

The plaintiffs appealed the decision and lost in the high court.

Justice Kwame Ansu Gyeabour, the high court judge, ruled that the Yagbonwura and the Council could not de-skin Buipewura Jinapor since they were not kingmakers.
